He’s got game. Today the Golden State power forward joins the ranks of OZY guest editors like Karl Rove, Von Miller and Sen. Kamala Harris to share the news that’s on his mind most these days. The Michigan native got his start on the court at Saginaw High School before becoming an All-American while at Michigan State University. Having won two NBA Championship titles with the Warriors, Green has also been named an NBA All-Star and All-NBA Team member for two years, and he was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.
The Presidential Daily Brief
The power of sports is awesome. The Houston Astros beat the Dodgers, notably the team with the biggest payroll, to win their first World Series championship — and just nine weeks after Hurricane Harvey made landfall, causing devastation across Houston. Winning baseball games doesn’t undo the damage, and a World Series trophy won’t help rebuild the city. But sports can provide an escape from reality, even if it’s just for a few hours, and lots of hope. Now, let’s make sure Houston is rebuilt.
Let’s come together as Americans. Now more than ever, it’s important for everyone to stand up for what’s right. We all have to make our voices heard, but it’s not always easy to put your name and reputation on the line. Coach Kerr has been an incredible leader both on and off the court, and I’m proud to stand alongside him and work to unite us as Americans.
The Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) is doing some amazing things to open up the conversation around racial equality. Founded by a mentor of mine, Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross, RISE has launched a yearly fund for advocacy and social justice programs. I’m proud to sit on RISE’s advisory board and support their mission — in town hall meetings, on social media and by talking with kids. To support this great organization — and enter for a chance to open presents with me on Christmas Day — check out my Omaze campaign.
Know This: President Trump has walked back comments he made yesterday about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assurances that his country didn’t meddle in U.S. elections, with Trump clarifying that he stands with the U.S. intelligence community’s assessment instead. Tens of thousands of people marched in Poland yesterday shouting far-right and nationalist slogans and throwing smoke bombs. And United Airlines has suspended flights to New Delhi until at least Monday over the cloud of toxic smog enveloping the city.
Read This: In Japan, it’s possible to hire an actor to play your child’s absent father, your boyfriend, even the groom on your wedding day. This interview gets inside the head of Ishii Yuichi, the man behind the impersonations.

We all deserve access to the internet. That’s why I applaud efforts to bring a fiber optic network into the tech capital. I’m hopeful that San Francisco follows through on this plan to provide everyone with the chance to connect. We’re living in an incredible time for advancement in technology, not only in the U.S. but across the world. We just have to make sure we use that power for good.
I hustled to drop pounds coming into college at Michigan State and have worked hard to stay in shape. As a professional athlete, I demand a lot from my body, so what I put into it is especially important. For the first time this year, I hired a nutritionist and a chef who worked together to build a nutrition plan that keeps my body in peak playing shape. After bringing home another championship for Golden State, I can’t argue with them.
The Golden State Warriors are moving into a new arena for the 2019–20 season. I’ve enjoyed learning about commercial real estate dealings through this process. Watching all the things that go into a project like this — choosing the site, getting permissions, breaking ground and beginning construction — is so interesting. I toured the site last year and learned the complexities of building a large structure close to the water and things like foundation depth requirements. It’s incredible, and I look forward to hanging up some new banners there soon.
When I’m on the road, and even at home, my phone is really important to me. I’m constantly keeping tabs on what’s going on across the league and the world. I’ve been checking on the new iPhone X, and it seems like the first weekend went pretty well. Apple snagged almost 1 percent of the phone market in just one weekend, and their sales outpaced the iPhone 8, a less expensive option to the X. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the holidays roll around.
I spent long hours in the weight room at Michigan State and will be forever grateful to the coaching staff and especially Coach Tom Izzo for instilling the value of hard work. I had the honor of giving back to the best university in the world and recently checked out the brand-new Strength and Conditioning Center created in my name. I want more kids to have the opportunities I had thanks to MSU. Hopefully Miles Bridges and the rest of the Spartans are putting in that hard work as we speak. Go Green!
